My manager couldn’t make it because “the roads were too bad.” We got an inch of snow. And he drives a brand new Subaru. It’s amazing how a tiny bit of snow like this can freak so many people out.

There’s only like 1/3 of the staff here (just supervisors and my direct reports). In fact, I'm calling people right now figuring out where the hell they are. We didn’t even get any snow, just a few flecks of slush coming down on my drive in.
People be dumb.

Wow, that is nothing. I’m from Los Angeles and when I drove in the snow for the first time in Germany there was about six inches on the ground and it was falling as I was driving. I know to some that isn’t much but for me it was enough to make me a bit nervous considering I’ve never driven in the snow. Using basic fundamental driving skills and some common sense I made it unscathed. It was actually quite fun.

Any excuse to avoid work I suppose

People be scared. They watch the weather forecasts and work themselves into a frenzy worrying that they'll be stuck at work by the snow. Then they end up taking a personal day to cower at home, and nothing happens. I see it here every year.

Ah, but you made two assumptions here: 1) Basic fundamental driving skills and 2) common sense.
Ordinary people lack at least one of these.

That’s ridiculous. I drove in 2 Mondays ago during the great DC Blizzard of 2016. Only 10 people out of about 120 showed up for work that day.

We’ve gotten to the point where they just make us take our laptops home and use VPN, even if it’s just a scare. We didn’t even drop to freezing last night, but there will be flurries all day and they nearly called work off completely.
Not that I’m complaining, but snows days used to be fun. Now it’s either you do all your work at home, or you spend 3 days catching up.

It’s ridiculous how people here can’t handle snow. There’s multiple teachers not at school today and my friend essentially totaled his Malibu accidentally sliding into a concrete mailbox. The roads are clear this isn’t hard people!

Haha yep. Pretty much that!

We have, perhaps, 10% of our normal office contingent today.
No snow in sight. Why, then?
Mardi Gras.

Time to sit nekkid in your boss’s chair, I guess.

Well people in Atlanta last year really did get stuck at work. Or stuck somewhere on a highway. Or at best, stayed in a hotel for the night instead of going home. Certainly sounds better just to avoid the mess and stay home!

Well some people run summer tires year round or bald all seasons. Then some areas do not have plows or any salt. Or at least fairly poor infrastructure set up to use it. Unless you are in the Northeast, then shame on these people!

It’s absolutely ridiculous! I’m home now but took the outer roads all the way from Chesterfield back to Kirkwood just to avoid the highway. It was completely stopped cause of accidents. The roads are 99% clear. There’s no need for this bullshit!

What the? Where do you live that people are scared of even less snow than we got here in St. Louis? haha

Six inches your first time driving in it? Well done. People in STL would be camped out for days if we got anything like that.

Man I wish we would get a tiny bit of snow out here (Vegas) I would make a couple of grand real quick pulling people out of ditches with my Jeep. They crash like it snowed 6" when it rains, I always wonder what would happen if it snowed.

That’s insane. Society has gone soft.

I suppose that’s fair. I always say that it’s not the snow I fear, it’s all the drivers who don’t know how to drive on it. If you know either one of those variables is going to make your day hell, then I guess why not take a personal day.

I enjoy that when it snows enough to make driving dangerous here, I get a paid day off (without using my personal days). Very nice to not have to make that decision.

we got a dusting, but the roads were clear because it was 50 yesterday.......Yes it went from 50 yesterday to snowing overnight here in MI. Gotta love it.
